Employee Rights after 1 week?

I started a new job last week and have since decided that it is not for me. A friend has informed that as I have been there for less than 2 weeks I do not have to work a notice period. Is this true? And if so do I still have the right to be paid for the work that I have done? UK answers only please.

You will always have to be paid for work that you have done, and you never legally have to formally hand in your notice.
