Employer verification on a background check??

A company will be doing a background check on me using an outside agency. I am providing my ss #, my name, and my addresses. Are they able to look up my place of employment and dates by using my ss#? I know the IRS has that info so are they able to look that up?? Or is employer verification done only by calling references that I provide??

  1. It depends on the company. They could verify the places you have worked at. more to match it up to the places you have listed type of deal. The more they pay for the more info they get. They won't call those employers on there, just verify it's the same as on your sheet. They'll know there might be a job or two you might not list and mostly look only at the last 3 years.

  2. No, there is no database that contains all the information of previous employers. The only way an employer will be verified is by contacting the reference you provided.

    Hope this helps.
