Question:

Employers, what would you do/think?

If a woman applied for the job and you wanted to call her for an interview, but could not get hold of her and left a message but she did not ring back?

Or the other case scenario, she went along to the interview but was extremely nervous and shaking and could barely get the words out and spoke very quickly and did not say much at all.

See, I have a medical condition and I have enough courage to apply for some jobs, but when they call me back, I either chicken out or get very nervous and stressed and worried about the interview that I can barely perform well. I am sick of employer's comments about my nervous condition. It makes me feel worse and makes it worse next time. It makes me feel good to apply for jobs but when they ring back, I get such a shock and such a fright and think I cannot do the job. It is not lack of confidence, as they say it is, as much as part of medical condition.

  1. I fully understand your worries, that can be a tough one.  What if you were to use how it makes you feel good to apply for a position and project that feeling into how it is going to feel to do an interview.

My guess is that your condition is not activated to apply because there is less face to face contact with the employer but it is agitated when you get the call back.

You can definitely overcome this by changing the picture in your mind of what the interview is going to be like.

Breath deeply and do some thinking about how you want the interview to turn out, see it in your imagination first and it will surely show up in your reality.

Here something that will help you change the picture http://nolanberentis.com/gratitude/

  2. If you have a medical condition- let them know about it and what that condition is- that way they will not blame this on a total lack of assertiveness and self confidence.

Start with volunteering and be brave enough to go through a tough patch at any workplace before you get comfortable in your duties. Unfortunately if you're unable to to this- you won't be successful in getting and/or maintaining a job.
