Hi, Im a 38 yr old male truck driver from Ireland, im intrested in driving in Australia (long distance) for a couple of years, I would be greatfull if someone could tell me the hurdles i would have to overcome to get a work visa, also an idea of salary. I wouldnt mind driving in a mine either. Iv been told there's company's looking for drivers to bring supplies to and from the mines. I would be greatfull for any info or websites i could visit. Thank you, David (Ireland)

  1. I cant help you much with the visa side of things but maybe i can help with the trucking. My husband is a truck driver and we live in a mining town. We were told that there were plenty of jobs in the mines driving trucks. It turns out that it is quite hard to get a job in there. They always advertise but usually friends of employees get in first. We realised that stories get distorted and over exaggerated through the pipe line, and we dont believe everything we hear. Although, there are plenty of jobs for truck drivers in the town. Concrete truck drivers are in high demand, as they deliver concrete to the mines and general concrete jobs also. The going rate here (not in the mines) is around $25 - $35 hr. Plus overtime usually. I would check out the website that i have listed below. This is the website for xstrata who own the mines. (sorry, i cant remember if it has .au on the end or not). Good luck

  2. I suggest that you start here first:
