Question:

Employment in Milan?

What is the cost of living in Milan compared to Phoenix, AZ? My fiance's company may transfer him to Milan. Neither of us know Italian but do plan on learning if it is definate. Is there any job I can apply for immediately without knowing much Italian? I have a background in reception/administrative assistance and food service. Also, if we marry before the move, and his job does transfer us, what kind of visa will I need?

  1. I don't know how much is the cost of living in Phoenix, but I can tell you how much is the cost in Milan in a month:

    >1000 euros for a house (50 mq)

80-100 eur electricity (for a small house)

40 eur gas for cooking (for a small house)

150 eur heating (it depends if you have your own boiler or if it's common in the building)

20 eur phone (only the line)

400 eur for supermarket (for a family of 3 people)

A lunch in a restaurant can cost from 20-25 eur/person

    A pizza+coca costs 15 euros

A pair of Levi's jeans costs at least 60 eur

However, you can economize a little, but Milan is expensive. I'm moving to Montreal and I'm seeing the difference.

To have a comparison you can go to this site www.kelkoo.it where you buy lots of items. Here you can have an idea of the difference of these items.

About the job, I think you could have no problem in your field. The problem is for italian graduates. However, it's better you learn a little italian.

About the visa you find a link above. I've read it, it's easier that obtaining a visa for Canada!

If you have questions, contact me. I know what moving abroad means.
