Employment verification?

how does a potential new employeer verify dates of employment? do they just speak with HR rep of my company? or is there another way?

They can actually contact any of the companies listed as places of employment even if you have not listed a contact number. They are only aloud to ask yes or no questions. SO they are also aloud to ask would you ever hire so and so to work for your company again. This is the one question that is a loop hole to finding out if someone is a good employee with out slandering anyone.

They call your HR dept or your boss, whomever you've named as a contact.  They read off what you've told them and they can just say yes or no to your dates of employment and pay, nothing else.
