Question:

Emptying a computer?

On another computer, I wish to completely clear the whole system out. It is a Windows XP by the way. I have tried to "Restore" it but I have no current restore points on my computer. Is there another way to empty out my computer? Basically, how do I completely wipe out everything on my computer other than factory settings? Thanks in advance!

  1. You can go to Maxtor.com and download Powermax2.3 to a floppy disc.  Insert the disc in you pc and re-boot it.  It will completely erase your hard drive and you can then re-install XP or any other system.

WARNING:  This will completely erase your entire hard drive.

  2. You will need to format and reinstall the OS(windows), and all the drivers.

  3. when u boot ur pc at startup screen there is a option to restore ur computer......mostly its like f10 or something depends on the make of ur pc....

so when u press that u'll c step by step program to restore it

  4. If you have the recovery CD, boot with that & you should be able o recover (Format & reinstall OS) , if not when you get to see your computer logo on boot (Dell/Hp/Compaq etc) start tapping F10 on keyboard. Follow the choices there & you get a new system.

However, this is where most people go careless. Here are the steps you need to do in order to minimize the pain of reinstalling OS again & again.

    1) Format & recover the system.

    2) Install a good AV BEFORE you plug internet in.

    3) Update AV the FIRST thing when you go online.

    4) Enable windows Updates so that your computer has all the available patches. In fact I'd say after updating

AV, go to windowsupdates.com & get ALL the updates.

    5) Now get a good Firewall if you have a always on internet connection.

    6) Get some good Anti Spyware/Malware too, SPybot "Search & Destroy" & "Ad-Aware" are what I use, they are good & they come free. Also get something like McAfee's Siteadvisor, which warns you which sites are knows sites for sending spyware/malware/spammers.
