End of road for Alfian Eko and Wulan Sari in Indonesia International Challenge – Badminton News
An upset was seen in the opening round of Prim-A Indonesia International Challenge when the top seeded Mixed Doubles duo of Alfian Eko Prasetya and Wulan Sari Sri had to bid farewell to the event on July 3, 2013.
This 37-minute tussle saw them battling with a compatriot tandem of Wijaya Rendra and Keshya Nurvita Hanadia, who amazed everyone by putting an impressive result of 17-21, 21-16 and 21-16.
The twosome of Alfian and Wulan failed to live up to the billing and faced a disgraceful defeat. On the other hand, the lower-ranked shuttlers, Wijaya and Keshya, played impeccable badminton in the ending two games and locked the
honour.
In first set of the match, Alfian and Wulan took some time to revive their chemistry, as they could not establish a significant lead in the beginning. They played well in patches and managed to end first half of the set with a
respectable total.
However, the latter part of game saw them switching on the best and prevailing in back-to-back rallies. The Indonesian campaigners forged a fruitful chemistry and won this valuable set point with scoreboard flashing 21-17 margin
in their favour.
The spectators were expecting them to prevail also in the second set of the match but their below-par performance buried their hopes. The partnership of Alfian and Wulan could not flourish in this crucial set and allowed the opposing
team to bounce back into the match.
The lower ranked but spirited duo, Wijaya and Keshya, did not squander this opportunity and established a strong grip over game. At first, they mounted pressure by putting a convincing figure of 11 and then magnified the impact
with a concluding margin of 21-16.
With this win, their morale was touching the sky and they played with even more conviction in third set of match.
Mixed Doubles experts, Wijaya and Keshya, repeated the history in the decider as well. They played with great responsibility and maturity to pocket this final match point. They raised their chances of success with a mountainous
total of 11 before half time.
After the one-minute break, they widened the gap on points table and sent Alfian-Wulan packing with an impressive result of 21-16.
