My 6th grade school year will end soon, and this is the best year I have ever had. I always cry and get very upset when I have to leave for the next grade, and I can tell this year will be one of the hardest. On top of leaving the grade forever, our class i reading "Where the Red Fern Grows", and it has a sad ending that makes me cry when I read it. Does anyone have any advice on how to make the end of the year a little easyer and calmer? Please help! Person with best ideas gets 10 points! Thank you!

  1. I don't know that I have any advice, really.  If you don't want to cry in class try thinking of something else.  Although I'm a teacher, I'm going through the same thing with the year ending.  I've gotten way too close to this group of kids.  I couldn't finish a book I was reading to them last week, because it was about "moving on."  My kids change schools after this grade & I most likely won't see them again.  It's better to have loved and lost than to never have loved at all, I suppose.

  2. Oh Lord are they still making you guys read that book?  Every one in our class cried...girls and boys, because the end is so darn sad!

You are going through a big change in your life.  Next year you'll be going to a new school where you don't know where anything is, the cafeteria, the bathrooms, your locker, nothing!  And change is scary!

But it's the beginning of new things.  If you ever did anything stupid {dropped your tray in front of that really cute new guy} this is where it all gets forgotten about.

I would recommend passing around the camera and make sure you have every bodies email and cell number.  Get together a few times over the summer.  Put together a digital album of you and your friends and have everybody send in their favorite titles...make it an adventure, and try not to focus on the sad parts.

  3. Go with it. Nothing wrong with crying and I doubt you are the only one that will cry

  4. I agree it is hard sometimes at the end of the year but hey, you're only going into 7th grade so it shouldn't be a big deal because you'll see your friends next year. You can hang out with your friends and then just don't think about not seeing them because then you don't think about how short the summer is. You have it easy, I'm leaving middle school for highschool and won't see half of my friends next year.

  5. try to think of the fact that you get time off school, or happy thoughts. slowly prepare yourself and ease into the fact that your leaving- don't let it all just hit you on the last day... i know i'm prob. gonna cry at the end of this yr. because there's a teacher at this school that i feel extremely close to like she could be a mother to me... and i'm going to highschool next year... so i mean just try to make the best of it... it could be worse :)

  6. I am also a big softy when it comes to goodbyes and during my sixth grade farewell party, almost everybody cried.  I felt like crying also but I didn't.  I usually hate crying in front of people and do it privately but I'm learning that its okey to cry in front of people.  Well, one of my myspace friends has this picture of the lead singer of my favorite band and on the picture he is crying and he was on stage crying in front of thousands of his fans.  It turns out that he wrote this song to his parents who died and he remembered them.  The song also talks about moving on after a goodbye.

  7. I know that farewells and goodbies.. are probably the hardest things to deal with!! im telling you from experienced!! when I was 16 I left the school I grew up in!!! I had the best years of my life!!! and unfortunatly I was moving so I had to leave a piece of my life in that place... because that year was such a huge part of your life.. its going to be really really hard to leave it!! the only thing that you an really do.. is first CRY YOUR eyes out, as you always probably do (dont worry im a cry baby to lol.. and im almost 21!!!). I KNOW u dont want to do it!! but dosent it feel better after you cry? especially when you do it with friends? just cry and let it go!!! second!!  instead of thinking of tis as the end, think of it as the  beginning of probably another great year) enjoy every last minute of it.. If you start to think about it now.. you wont enjoy it.. I graduated college and I had such an amazing time. but before my graduation I was constantly thinking of how sad it was going to be.. and now thats it over i regret not enjoying it more!!!>. SO MY ADVICE TO YOU.. is live it to the fullest.. without worrying soo much!!! plus think about it.. you have another amazing year with new things to come? right? and you say that this year, is  the best year you've ever had.. but believe me they are more to come :) and im sure next year.. you will think that, that year was the best one!

  8. This too shall pass and then the problems just get bigger.  Enjoy life while you can,  you're young and you have so many new adventures ahead of you.  Look forward to all of the new journeys you are going to explore.   Think about all of the new friends you will meet next year.  Stay in contact with the ones you have and keep adding more.   Live and Laugh, this too shall pass.

  9. Ask your parents if you can plan an "end of 6th grade/beginning of summer" party! It will give you something to look foward to. You can make  a video at the party to watch over the summer, too!

  10. I am so sorry for you. I really am.

At the end of where the red fern grows leave the room to go to the bathroom. At the end of the school year make the best of it. Have the most fun, think of all the good times.Have an end of the year party with all of your friends! Just remember that you will see them next year and even during the summer and the next grade will be even better.Remeber its ok to cry and on the last day of school bring in something that they can sign. Last year i wore a white shirt and brought sharpies for them to sign my shirt and i still have the shirt and will do the same thing this year.

  11. Aw! That happens to me, too. I'm in 7th grade and I will probably cry at the end, too.

But I had a great year as a 7th grader, so you probably will, too. Think about all the good things that will happen in the summer. Going on vacation, sleeping in late. slumber parties, anything that makes you happy.

For the book, ask your teacher if you can take it home to read the ending. Explain that you might cry in class, and that is embarissing.

Best of luck and enjoy your summer!
