End of the world in 2012??

Do you believe the world will really end in 2012?

Nah, that's bullshit. Do you remember they said that the world would end in New Years 2000, and obviously they didn't. Didn't they say that it would end in 6/6/06. And nothing happened. It's highly unlikely it would end in 2012. The only one that knows when the world would end is god. Nobody knows when would the world end, except god himself. So, enjoy life. Most likely, it won't end in 2012. If somehow this is true, most people would be doing something to prevent it, and obviously, no one's doing it, so we have no worries about dying.

no the years are just numbers.

and if the world ends right at the beginning of 2012, which is January 1, some countries will be at 2011 December 31. so its not possible for everything in the world to end at once.

There is no reason at all to believe in this.  If you look back over some of the previous times this question has been asked, try to get an idea of which people are credible by looking at some of their profiles and standings and maybe the way they answer some other science questions.

Here, I'll save you the trouble.  You will find that virtually every person who is scientifically credible on this forum will say that this whole 2012 thing is bunk.  It's bunk.  It's nonsense based on an atrocious pseudo-documentary aired repeatedly and shamelessly by the History Channel.  It doesn't matter that four Hollywood celebrities and Montel Williams believe in it.  There is no basis whatsoever for claims that anything catastrophic will happen in 2012.  Every claim I have seen on this subject is verifiably wrong.  Some are just erroneous and some are outright lies.  These are the kind of people who dream of yelling "Fire!" in a crowded theater.

Since the ridiculous documentary, every doom nut or ego tripper who wants to be the center of attention has latched on to it.  There is nothing to worry about.  For some entertainment on the subject, go look at this collection of doom prophecies that never came true.

What makes anyone even think that the mayan calendar is more accurate then ours. It could be that their calendar ended in 2012 because they ran out of ink. There are so many possibilities. And the mayans never mentioned ANYTHING about the world ending at that date.

Sometimes it is difficult to know which person is telling you the truth about things like this. One way to figure it out is to think about what people would really do, right now, if the world were coming to an end in a couple years.

HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS of people would quit their jobs and start drinking or otherwise enjoy the time they have left. People with even moderate money would buy cars and take trips. Millions with limited or no money would take to robbery. They would not continue sending their children to school and adults would drop out. There would be no concern about sexually transmitted diseases, so you can imagine the results in that direction. All medical research and space exploration would come to a stop.

These things haven’t happened so that rather tells the story.

Anyway, nobody knows if the world is going to end, and if they did, why would they reveal their discovery on Yahoo Answers?
