End of year accolades for Lady Bears – Volleyball news
The Big Bear High School girls’ volleyball team rounded off the 2011 season with an overall record of 10-9 and 6-4 record in the De Anza League.
The Big Bears settled for third position in the De Anza League, which has a total six teams. Yucca Valley and Desert Hot Springs got hold of the first two positions in De Anza League. Other than that, the qualification to CIF Division 4AA Playoffs was another
highlight of the season for Lady Bears.
Following the end of the season, the Lady Bears recently got together for a banquet. Making good use of the opportunity, the team management split different honours among players for their hard work during the season. It was a token of appreciation and sort
of recognition for the players.
Susie Obernede, who took over the position of head coach at Big Bear High School in 2011 worked out great performance and led the team to enormous success. The Big Bear team roster was composed of following players:
Jordie Beuch – libero Pearl Snead – Outside hitter (OH) Tori Waner – Defence Specialist Alyssa Larson – OH Kelsey Davis – Setter April McCollough – S, L Geneva Leong – DS, S Krystina Decaro – RS Carly Jo Reeves – Middle Blocker (MB) Mikaela Powers – MB
The Bears’ libero Jordi Beuch received the Defensive Most Valuable Player award. The outside hitter Pearl Snead earned the secret weapon award and also picked up an honourable mention for the second team. Junior Tori Waner put body mind and soul in her game
throughout the season and she was tagged as the Most Improved Player of the season. Senior setter and outside hitter Kelsey Davis earned second team honour and was named varsity Bear of the Year. She recorded 281 assists on the year and also proved her endeavours
in attack and digging.
Senior middle blockers Mikaela Powers and Carly Jo Reeves were named to the all-league first team.
Senior Krystina Decaro settled for coach’s award as she showcased spectacular show defensively and offensively. She totalled 79 digs and also helped the team with 49 kills.
Since all the players were together at the season-banquet, they also talked about the upcoming season. New resolutions of achieving more success in 2012 were made. The banquet ended on a happy note.
