  1. Self-sufficient North American male homo-sapien.

Habitat is being over-run by entitlement-minded whiners waiting for handouts.

  2. Primate info net  - http://pin.primate.wisc.edu/ - is a fantastic resource, you can get basic info sheets if you just want to check out different species for a quick overview, and they have a huge database you can check for more substantial articles. Google scholar is also decent for finding articles in places you might not think to check otherwise!

Depending on what journals you have access to online, I'd recommend checking out the International Journal of Primatology, the American Journey of Primatology, Folia Primatologica,  and Animal Behaviour often has a lot of primate articles too. If your library has subscriptions to these you should be able to search for and access the articles online.

Depending on what the focus of your paper is, you may also be able to find good information in conservation or zoo related journals.

As far as picking a species, the IUCN Red List is searchable online - http://www.iucnredlist.org/search/search... - if you're really stuck for a species then try using "primates" as a text search term (it's a "special animal keyword") and pick which categories you want to look at. This is interesting because it shows you how long it has been since a species was evaluated - maybe find one that hasn't been evaluated for a while and try and find more recent research that may give an indication of how the species is doing now?

ALL the great apes (bar humans, if you like to classify them with the other apes) are endangered, and there's a whole lot of material out there to go on.

Madagascar's also a good place to look - lots of indigenous primate species are in trouble, and some of them have very unique and interesting adaptations (aye-ayes for example, and sifakas are neat too).

One of my personal favourite species is the golden-headed lion tamarin, they could be an interesting choice since there's actually an upward trend in the numbers - you could look at how this trend has come about, and assess how effective you think all the conservation measures will be in the long term. (I kind of want to write a paper on this myself now!)

Hopes this helps with ideas and resources.

  3. What about the Mountain gorilla. There are maybe 640 of them and are threatened by war, poaching and habitat loss.

Dr. Dian Fossey studied the animal and published word of its plight. At least until she was murdered in 1985.
