Finally: a bill to legalize for personal use -- HR 5843?
There are many good reasons to legalize marijuana use. Here are a few:
1.) Prevent overcrowding of prisons and ease that tax burden.
2.) Drug companies would have old people on fixed incomes paying $10.00/pill rather than allowing people to self-medicate for a wide range of complaints including: pain, anxiety, depression, hypertension, nausea, vomiting, gastric upset, glaucoma, and as an adjunct to chemotherapeutic drugs. (Harvard studies also show that it can slow the growth rate of some tumors).
3.) Healthier than cigarettes (because it can be ingested orally, as in the form of brownies).
4.) Lower rates of dealing-related deaths and domestic abuse situations, like those that commonly occur among alcoholics.
5.) It acts as a gateway, but it swings both ways. This will offer people who are addicted to more dangerous drugs a safer alternative.
6.) The prohibition on alcohol hasn't worked in the past, neither will this.
Is it or is it not a good idea to legalize?
