Endocrinology/Hormone Question...serious answers only please!?

Hello everyone. I recently had some blood work done, at the request of my doctor. I had been having lower abdominal pains, pain during intercourse, and difficulty in getting pregnant. He ordered several different tests, most of which came back normal. However, there was on that was WAYYYY off. My DHEA levels came back as 2423. The normal for my age range (I'm 21) was listed between 162-995. He tried to explain this to me as well as he could, but he's just a regular family physician, and he told me straight out that endocrinology was not his favorite part of medicine.

Can any doctor/nurse/anyone who knows anything about these things give me some idea as to what a number that high means, or at least direct me to a website that can explain it?

Thanks in advance!!

  1. DHEA is a hormone that is a precursor to estrogen and testosterone. I don't know what this high level specifically means for you, though. Regardless, you need to see a reproductive endocrinologist to figure this out.
