Endometrial Biopsy Question again.?

Hello Ladies. I asked this yesterday but no one really answered, so maybe i need to make it more clear.

I went to my Doctor to day to ask for Clomid because i have PCOS and we have been trying for 1year and 3months and nothing. i have been on Metformin for 7months and still nothing, so i asked for the Clomid. She said that Clomid is a very strong drug and she wants to make sure that im not Ovulating first before she gives it to me. So she is goin to do a Endometrial Biopsy to check the lining of my Uterus right before my cycle starts to get a sample to see if im ovulating or not.

So my question is has anyone had this done before for this reason? Does it hurt?

Thanks ahead of time:-)

  1. I had an endometrial biopsy done 2 months ago. I have not been able to conceive since my miscarriage in Jan 2008 and other than my age (39) my doctor wanted to rule out some other factors. My biopsy was done spur of the moment. I went in for test results from my vaginal ultrasound and ended up signing a consent form for the biopsy. It took a total of 15 mins which included the prep time, the procedure and laying on the table for about 5 mins after-wards. I felt the initial pinch when he took the sample and it did ( I won't lie to you) hurt but from there after-wards, it was the usual discomfort associated with getting a pap smear. Because my biopsy was not planned, I did experience major cramping after-wards and I would advise taking a pain killer (Motrin 800mg) beforehands if you can. I cramped for 2days after the procedure but it was not as painful as menstrual cramping. It was comparable to the cramping I get during ovulation. My test results came back showing normal ovulation and normal uterine lining so since my period came on this weekend (WAH, was hoping for BFP)  I am scheduled for the HSG test on next week. If this test comes back with good results, then I guess conceiving is just one of those things that takes time because of my advanced age. But you will be fine and remember that the pain is worth it for the prize at the end. Good luck to you and remember your pain killer!! Karen

  2. I have had to endometrial biopsies done.  I had it done as a test to test the lining of my uterus.  It was found that I am not ovalating.  The procedure itself is very very uncomfortable bring your hubby you will want to hold he hand and talk to him to keep your mind off of what is going on...  Take a couple of motrin a couple of hours before the test that will help with the cramping which is pretty extreme after wards.   The cramping lasted for about a hour after the surgery for me.

I know this probably is not what you wanted to hear however it is a small price to pay for what you want....

    Good luck
