Endura Racing hires ProTour consultant
British Continental cycling team Endura Racing will be building up their program for the 2011 season. The latest boost to the team’s international credentials is the hiring of Alex Sans Vega as a consultant for senior sports director Julian Winn.
"I am really excited to join one of the most successful UK teams with a great set up, talented riders and experienced management," said Sans Vega in a team press release.
"I am relishing the thought of all the up and coming challenges of a great calendar of racing."
Sans Vega will be coming over from a sports director position at the former ProTour team Cervélo TestTeam, where he worked at the Tour de France ten times, the Vuelta a Espana six times, Giro d’Italia four times and the UCI Road World Championships five
times. He was hailed by former Cervélo rider Xavier Tondo as being responsible for the rider’s climb to the ProTour level.
"He was the sport director who really believed in me, who really helped me to be in this team, and now he doesn’t have something for next season," said Tondo to
VeloNation before Sans Vega was hired by Endura Racing. "It is really sad….the person who really helped me to be here doesn’t have a team."
The British Continental team is one of the top teams in the UK, sporting a line-up including Rob Hayles, Ian Wilkinson, Callum Wilkinson, Evan Oliphant, James Moss and the recently signed Dave Clarke, winner of the 2010 East Yorkshire Classic.
A continuing member of Endura Racing, Rob Partridge, was the top-finishing British rider at this year’s Tour of Britain and helped the team to win the 2010 Vuelta Ciclista a Murcia and the British Cycling Elite Circuit series.
"When you are given a chance like this, you have to embrace it, give it your all and reach your full potential," said Sans Vega. "I intend to give this everything. There is some unbelievable talent on the team, but as a unit we have something even greater."
