Endy Chavez shines as Texas Rangers rout Cleveland Indians, 7-4 – MLB Update
Texas Rangers’ out-fielder, Endy Chavez had a remarkable day as he outclassed the pitchers by scoring two runs including one RBI and went 4-for-4 in the Rangers’ 7-4 victory over the Cleveland Indians at Progressive Field, Cleveland on June 2.
The Rangers took a 1-0 lead in a four-game series against the Indians. In the first inning of the game, no score was added by any batter. However, the Indians started their second inning pretty well as they blasted three runs and got a 3-0 lead. Travis Buck
singled to right-field, Carlos Santana scored one run and Grady Sizemore moved to third base.
The second run for the Indians was taken by Sizemore on the drive of Orlando Cabrera towards the short-stop. Buck posted another run during first inning to complete a three-run campaign when Jack Hannahan was grounded out to short-stop position and Cabrera
occupied third base in no time.
During the third and fourth inning, the pitchers threw extremely well and did not allow any runs. The Rangers’ starter, Dave Bush pitched economically as he threw four innings with an ERA of 4.81 and permitted three runs on four hits including three earned
runs. He was able to strike-out only three batters and gave one walk on his 78 pitches.
The Rangers got off the mark in the fifth inning and tied the game 3-3 by posting three runs. Yorvit Torrealba was grounded out to second base and Nelson Cruz scored one run. Chavez added his first run on the drive of Elvis Andrus and the third run of the
fifth inning was taken by Ian Kinsler, as Josh Hamilton singled to centre-field.
Chavez commented on his feelings and said, “I had my doubts about getting back, but I continued to work hard and keep my attention in the right spot. I appreciate it that the Rangers waited for me and trusted me. I feel comfortable now that I can play baseball
again.”
In the sixth inning, the Rangers went ahead 6-3 when Cruz, Mitch Moreland and Chavez each hit three runs jointly to lift the momentum of their team. Matt LaPorta hit a solo homer (430 feet) towards centre-field to cut his team’s deficit 6-4 at the end of
seventh inning. The eighth inning went score-less.
Andrus scored a single run in the ninth inning to end the game 7-4.
