If all of the energy from a 60-watt bulb was put into 1 gram of water at room temperature for 2 seconds, how much would the temperature of the water increase?

  1. 60 watt x 2 seconds = 120 Joules

    specific heat capacity of water = 4.1813 J*g^(-1)*K^(-1)

    120/4.1813 = 28.699 K

    29 degrees Celsius to 2 significant figures.
