  1. Yes it is wasteful, and it probably not allowing you to sleep well. I say just shut it off, you may have a few nights of little sleep, but you'll get used to it. I've saved about $50 on my electric bill by plugging my tv, vcr, stereo and game system into a powerswitch which is shut off when not in use.

  2. Buy a "white noise" machine. It makes soothing noise so you can sleep, but doesn't use as much energy as a tv would. I have one and use it every night because it's soooo quiet at my house, any little noise would wake me up. Ebay probably has them. Good luck!

  3. I don't think one TV out of the whole universe or 5 million will hurt the universe..PEOPLE COME ON!!

    Global Warming is not real.

Please don't give me bad points just because I don't believe in Global Warming..I don't want to upset people..it just doesn't seem that that is logical..I know only One that can end the world...and that is my Saviour Jesus Christ

I mean well, I am not a bad person so please don't debunk my points!!

  4. Well firstly your tv shouldn't waste that much energy, seeing as its mainly heating that use large amounts of energy rather than light. And does your television not have a sleep timer set to a hour to give you time to fall to sleep then it will automatically turn off.

  5. aw it's really nice that you think that but really tvs don't use that much energy as you think it does... i mean my parents keep theirs on every OTHER night.. i think that might work for you too. Just keep in mind that you don't have to do every single thing to help the planet.. even if you just recycle and stuff or help with the community by not smoking or whatever you'll be a-okay. just think of it as a reward for turning off all the lights the whole day-- then it'll be like less energy than if you were to keep all the lights in your house on for ten minutes. (compared to keeping your TV on for around eight hours- yeah it's a HUGE difference!!!!

  6. Plug it into a time clock in the wall. That way it will shut off after maybe 12.30, and also turn on at 7 if you want.

Get the electronic type that allows you to set for each day and weekends. Most TV's will go to standby when turned on at the wall.

Swap your TV to one with a timer feature - it will turn off or go to standby when yhe timer runs out.

I think Sony do several that physically turn off - big clunk when the time is up - so no stand-by waste.

  7. Look for ways to make green energy.

Make renewable power for less than $200, why wouldn't you, that way you can leave your TV on if you like and cut down the electricity Bill as well.

  8. You have a few options.

1). set the sleep mode to turn the TV off after a time when you are sure you will be asleep.

2). Switch to a radio instead. Maybe add a nite-light too.

3). Learn to sleep without any of that stuff (that would save the most energy).

  9. Look for other ways to save energy even if you have the TV on more often than you think you should.

See the following page on Top Ten Tips to save energy at home:

    Hope this helps!

  10. Try a radio and a flickering mood light.

  11. get one of them pay per view slot meters that you put a pound in to veiw when it runs out it turns the tv off at the end of the month you can empty the meter and go buy a new pair of shoes
