What should we do about our energy crisis? We are running out of oil fast (prices going up). What will the next big energy source be that is renewable and environmentally friendly? Why should we use this source above others?

  1. We are, last time I checked there was plenty of oil, we just need to drill for it.

  2. Coal.  It is cheap, plentiful, and it only emits carbon dioxide which is, of course, harmless to the environment.

Dearest May, where are we going to get ten million barrels of vegetable oil a day to replace the petroleum kind?

  3. hep is ideal!

it provides energy at low costs(however the starting cost is high)

it doesnt use up water or contaminate it and that water can be used downhill!

i also think that solar energy and wind power can be used in suitable conditions!

  4. We are not running out of oil (some day we will, but not now). You can thank the people at OPEC for the increase of prices. As far as renewable and environmentally friendly resources, we haven't found one yet (wind and solar power suck and nuclear power generates too much waste)

  5. Nuclear is probably the only alternative available today that is proved to have the ability to provide the massive amounts of reliable 24/7 power needed. Solar, Wind, Geothermal can help in locations where they are useful, but they are very unreliable and to expensive in many areas. Conservation (Smaller Homes, frugal usage, etc.), can also make a huge immediate difference.

I hope in the future sometime we will be able to develop more Hydrogen and Fusion energy sources.

  6. we could use CNG.it is environment friendly as it does not emit harmful substances into the atmosphere.Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) is a substitute for gasoline (petrol), diesel, or propane fuel. It is considered to be an environmentally "clean" alternative to those fuels and it is much safer than other motor fuels in the event of a fuel spill: natural gas is lighter than air, so it disperses quickly when leaked or spilled. It is made by compressing natural gas (which is mainly composed of methane (CH4)), by about 75%. It is stored and distributed in hard containers, at a normal pressure of 200–220 bar (20–22 MPa), usually in cylindrical or spherical shapes to maintain equal pressure on the walls of the containers.

In response to high fuel prices and environmental concerns, compressed natural gas is starting to be used in light-duty passenger vehicles and pickup trucks, medium-duty delivery trucks, and in transit and school buses.

  7. Well, if everyone were to buy a special motor for their cars, we could use vegetable oil. It's true. Its a renuable resource & it creates no polution. Right now though if you get them their a big ugly thing in your back seat.. If they were to make cars with room for the motor however we could save our planet. Its the perfect replacement for fuel.

  8. How about getting "The World's Cleanest Car" that runs on compressed air and should be out later this year.

"BBC News is reporting that a French company has developed a pollution-free car which runs on compressed air. India's Tata Motors has the car under production and it may be on sale in Europe and India by the end of the year.

The air car, also known as the Mini-CAT or City Cat, can be refueled in minutes from an air compressor at specially equipped gas stations and can go 200 km on a 1.5 euro fill-up -- roughly 125 miles for $3. The top speed will be almost 70 mph and the cost of the vehicle as low as $7000.

The car features a fibreglass body and a revolutionary electrical system and is completely computer-controlled. It is powered by the expansion of compressed air, using no combustion at all, and the exhaust is entirely clean and cool enough for use in the internal air conditioning system. "

  9. No energy source is completely environmentally friendly.

Nuclear energy needs to play a bigger role.  It can help ease our dependency on oil and is more environmentally friendly.

I believe the nuclear waste to power a home of a family of four for 20 years would fit in a shot glass...  by contrast, think how much pollution is generated drilling oil, transporting it, refining it, etc.

If everyone started using vegetable oil or other biofuels then the cost of those fuels and foods would increase... supply and demand.
