Energy Team clinches America’s Cup World Series Venice title – Sailing News
After a tremendous sailing display on Venetian waters, Energy Team was able to win the 2012 America’s Cup World Series Venice title with 74 points. The team took part in seven races with some top finishes to reach the mile-stone of 74 points at the end to
claim the title.
Energy Team started the regatta with some outstanding finishes from the beginning. However, they tumbled down in the standings in the middle of the championship but still they came up with some superb sailing strategies to regain their top position in the
end.
The weather conditions in Venice remained consistent from the beginning. The fleet had to face some lighter wind conditions where the wind blew from five to six knots but the last days of the regatta saw some impressive forecast which was quite supportive
for the fleet.
While speaking to the media, Energy Team skipper Loick Peyron said that they made a few mistakes in the beginning, but that probably made it all the more interesting for the spectators as well as for the team. However, the conditions were very complicated
and there was a lot of pressure on them.
However, the overall lead of the AC World Series leader-board is held by ORACLE Team USA – Spithill with 46 points. The American team clinched some convincing finishes in earlier regattas which brought them on top of the standings.
Overall standings at the end of the regatta:
1. Energy Team 3 1 3 2 8 5 1 = 74 points
2. ORACLE TEAM USA - Spithill 8 4 8 3 2 3 2 = 58 points
3. Emirates Team New Zealand 6 3 2 4 3 6 4 = 54 points
4. Artemis Racing 2 7 7 7 5 1 3 = 52 points
5. Luna Rossa - Piranha 5 5 4 1 6 2 DNF = 43 points
