Energy Team gets lead on Day 1 of 2012 America’s Cup World Series – Sailing News
Opening day of the 2012 America’s Cup World Series was filled with moderate wind conditions which were quite helpful to make a perfect sailing start of the regatta at Venice in Italy.
The participants of the AC World Series were all set to get a tremendous sailing experience in Venice. The AC World Series fleet was quite enthusiastic of beginning another thrilling regatta.
With some outstanding sailing techniques, Energy Team was able to hit the top split of the series standings with 16 points after clinching a third and a first position in both scheduled races of the day.
The first race of the regatta began under moderate weather as the breeze gusting from eight to 11 knots. However the skies did not show any aggression of the opening day of the challenge and remained clear until the end of the day.
The first race was quite thrilling as every team in the fleet was energetic to hit the leading spots from the start as it would give them a firm position in the event.
Team Korea skippered by Nathan Outteridge showed their class in the initial race and was able to collect a bullet in the end that brought them in a strong position. However, the second race did not go according to their expectations and they tumbled down
on sixth finish to make it to the second podium place in the overall standings at the end of Day 1.
On the other hand, Energy team was on third place in the opening race but they sprang back tremendously in the second to clinch a bullet and place themselves on the top position with 18 points.

2. Luna Rossa - Swordfish 4 2 = 16 points
3. Team Korea 1 6 = 15 points
4. Emirates Team New Zealand 6 3 = 13 points
5. Artemis Racing 2 7 = 13 points
6. Luna Rossa - Piranha 5 5 = 12 points
7. ORACLE TEAM USA - Spithill 8 4 = 10 points
8. ORACLE TEAM USA - Bundock 7 8 = 7 points
9. China Team 9 9 = 4 points
