If I drank an energy drink like Rockstar or Redbull before a race, along with water, would I benefit from it? It's a three mile race.

  1. I don't think energy drinks are the way to go.

They are a short boost of artificial energy which can increase the heart rate and have possible health effects.

Try eating carb loaded foods the night before and make sure your potassium intake is good the day of the race (gatorade, bananas)

    Good luck!

  2. no because you would probably get ahead then the drink would wear off and you'll fell tired then you might through up.

  3. Eh... Rockstar or Redbull are questionable. I am a soccer player and I tried drinking energy drinks like that before games and I got sick at halftime. The energy was jittery and not reliable. I was doing some research online to find an energy drink that is good for athletes and I came across this one that Lance Armstrong is promoting. He drinks it and has said good things about it, so I figured I'd try it. I found a free trial at this site http://www.voernix.com/2008/07/frs.html and it has helped me immensely on the field and off. It has worked great for me.

  4. Drinking anything carbonated before running is a bad idea.  Carbo loading for a 3 mile race is a waste of time too. Try a big spoon of honey or an energy gel.

  5. Sure, but you have to take it at least an hour and a half before the race or it wont kick in until after you run.  i take Ginseng before my competitions ( you can find it at any gas station). It's natural and  works GREAT!! Also

  6. It could be dangerous, I would advise against it.

  7. As far as I know that is not a good idea. Caffeinated drinks only boost your energy for a short period of time, and then you crash. Your best bet is to eat a lot of carbs the night before, and stay well hydrated (water). Hope that helps.
