Energy saving lights ?

Question

why is mercury used in these or standard lightbulbs if mercury is so dangerous ?

are there not any safe alternatives ?

Buy LED lights.

Fluorescent can be bad.  You need to keep them on for at least 15 minutes at a time to ensure it will last long.

While LED lights go on in an instant and shut off in an instant and still saves energy.  It's like those lights on the tail lights on trucks on and the back lights on certain cars.  The ones with all the little individual bulbs that blink really fast.

one save alternative is flourscent bubls. the bublbs that are a bit twisted up about 3 times.  These last longer.  mercury is dangerous because of the large amounts of hydrogen or h12d3o12

The mercury level is so small one wouldn't make difference...but when the prospect of having millions trashed..then that could be a problem.

It's illegal to toss those compact florescence and large florescence into the regular trash here...they expect us to haul them to the hazardous waste facility.

As far a safe alternative..there are none...except the old bulbs.
