  1. some energy saving products are anything that has the energy star logo on it. but to be specfic you could go with the new water bottles that use less plastic. if thats not good enough then you should google it or go with the new hybrid cars or the advances in hydrogen fuel cells. hope this helped

  2. Check out the link below.  It has tons of good examples.

  3. MSN is all about conservation.  Check out http://green.msn.com/

  4. My son has been working with a group developing a tiny computer that runs on less than 1 watt, has computing capacity greater than a 386, and uses solid state storage instead of disk... no need for a fan. This has been created as a computer for the third world educational community, with a cost about $200 plus the cost of USB memory sticks.

The beauty of it is that its battery is charged by a hand cranked dynamo that plugs in, or a solar panel.

MIT students and staff have created and demonstrated prototypes, and taken orders. Now a Korean company is beginning production.

It will use a version of Linux provided free via Ubuntu.

We are also working on a smart electric panel which takes input for each circuit a price of energy at which it will draw power. The grid management evaluates present supply and costs, to offer power such that it first makes a profit on every kw it sells, and secondly sells every kw that it can not avoid producing.

For instance, if it has to import power from another grid, the price is the wholesale price plus a markup for grid maintenance. It apples that price to al internal suppliers, like nuclear, Hydro, Wind, anything that is not on a long term contract. There is a blending in of prices where there are long term contracts.

When there is no imported power, the grid bids for internal power, and pays everyone whatever the  current bid is. If it gets more than is needed the bid drops. If it gets less than needed, it raises the bid.

This is where our panel comes in.  People will set high priority circuits to buy power at even an import premium price. Things that are really nice to have may be set to draw power only when no coal fired plants are needed.

Some tasks will be set to run only when there is surplus base load power( as determined by price.

What this does is to shift demand to periods of lower demand, allowing us to use wind power on an as available basis. and also avoid using coal fired or imported capacity.

  5. look around energy star, also of course CFLs and there's this GREAT book called The Green Book with LOTS of tips and some products. I saw this catalouge recently with a lot of products, unfortunately cant remember the name...
