Hypothetical Question or not, the way things are going.

If the war brakes out in the Middle East, real war not this little skirmishes we have now. Russia & Iran get together and decide to s***w Europe.

And oil stop flowing.

Where would US be at that point, after strategic reserves are depleted?

  1. well, with obama we would be crippled and at a complete stop for 30 years until we see results from his energy plan.

Obama said straight out at a speech, "With my energy plan for alternative fuels, we will see results as soon as 2035."

Mccain wants the same alternative plans, but he goes 2 steps farther. clean coal, nuclear energy.

AND, lets drill here NOW for OUR own oil and stop the dependence.

mccain is the ONLY one that has a short term plan.

obamas short term for 30 years is to check your tires!

a few months ago, the democrats were in here speaking highly of boone pickens.

even he says DRIL:L DRILL DRILL NOW!!!

    so now they hate him!!

    LOL

  2. Energy Independence = National Security + Revamped Economy

Right now, if what you said was to happen, we would be in a world of hurt and so would many others.

Like David said, we use 25% of the world's oil, (and have 3% of the world's oil reserves) but we are also 25% of thw world's economy and 50% of the world's food supply. This make's China and India a factor. If Russia or Iran get to cocky, China and India starve, so who's side are they going to be on?

  3. We would be in trouble. This is why we need to exploit our resources, coal, oil, gas, nuclear, wind, water, solar and work on finding new sources of energy, all at the same time. Some people say we use 25% of the worlds oil, true, but they don't tell you we use that oil for our needs while we ALSO feed 50% of the world, give more aid to the world than ALL other countries combined.

  4. actually, i'm not sure that a WWIII would be so bad. History has shown that wars provide a stimulated economy because the troops need supplies so people get jobs. The big question is whether or not we have all the resources. You're right, if we are left high and dry without anything to lean on, we could be in serious trouble. We may have to start aggressive offshore drilling, even though we may not get any oil for about ten years.

  5. Ther are enough oil reserves in the ground under US control to last us nearly 600 years.

THis does not includes the huge reseves of Coal and Oil Shale and Natural Gas.

A war as you describe would likely kill Europes economy which would hurt the US finacial Markets and it would take time to get our reserves fullyt on line but Iran and Russia would have a much harder time as their countries were slowly strangled.
