Energy used by Americans in one year?

How much energy do Americans use over the course of one year? How much is wasted? If you answer, please cite your source, if possible. Also, are there any other scary facts about global warming/the environment that might be useful for earth day?

The US electrical energy produced for air conditioning is roughly 1/6th of their consumption. Did you know that air conditioning is in fact refrigeration?

California is being knocked off the electrical grid treating the symptoms of heat waves. They are blaming economy but the reality is quite different.

Did you know that the entire national to municipal building industry is signed off as compliant because they can't verify how a building is using energy? Did you know the sciences programs in academia use calculators for temperature and global warming considerations?

Lots to do on earth day because the toxins associated with this are causing cancers in babies.

Americans used a total of approximately 40 quadrillion - a lot of zeros there - BTU's, residentially & commercially, in 2005. This statistic includes all types of energy - coal, fuel oil, etc.

This is according to the Federal Government, though, so the absolute accuracy of these figures is probably debatable, considering what passes for a Presidential Administration these days. I'll include a couple links:

way to much is consumed like it gets more and more so there is no real number. half of it is wasted on like leving a lamp or tv on all night.Some scary facts are

1.polor bears will be extincted by 2015

2.the air is get worse not beter

3.people are to lazy to do anything

1.plant grass seeds by buying them and scatering them on bare places

2.plant flowers

3.pick up trash in your neiber hood

4.plant a tree somewere near you or maby far away from you

5.dont wach tv

6.use as litle energey as posible

7.unplug all itoms not being used

8.turn all lights off by 6:00 pm in your house and dont turn them on till  6:00 am the next day

9.try to get your neigbers and go clean up a half mile of highway

These are just a few of the things you can do for earth day
