Enes Kanter looking to play in China – NBA Update
Enes Kanter, the Turkish centre who was drafted as the 3rd overall pick by Utah Jazz in the 2011 National Basketball Association is looking to play in China, if the lockout stretches further.
Kanter is a Turkish national, who was scheduled to play with the University of Kentucky in the previous season. However, because of his relations with a Turkish club, NCAA did not allow him to play for the Kentucky and he remained
on the sidelines for the entire preceding season.
Although the Turkish giant failed to show his abilities for much of the season, he was rated as No. 3 in the recent draft. The scouts did not get to see much of him, but they loved his skills in the few competitive games that he
played.
Kanter said, "I believe if I could have played [at Kentucky], I would go with the No. 1 pick. I believe I am the best player in this draft."
After missing the entire collegiate season, the lockout is now looming the next NBA spell that can possibly squander another term of Kanter. Therefore, he is eyeing on the Chinese Basketball League to avoid another season go to
waste.
On Friday Kanter’s agent, Max Ergul, confirmed during an interview that his client has received offers from two Chinese teams. Ergul is also not in favour of Kanter losing another year of competitive basketball. For that reason,
they will seriously consider the offers if the lockout draws out late into September.
Ergul, who did not mention the names of the Chinese teams, as the details of the negotiations are still not revealed, said, “It’s very interesting stuff. We’ll be entertaining those ideas as well as the lockout progresses. He’s
a ballplayer — he has to play.”
Kanter had made the headlines because of his bold statements, but that indicates how aggressive his approach is whether it’s basketball court or his proclamations in the news. He wouldn’t spare his foes.
Kanter believes that he has "Pau Gasol's post moves, maybe Dirk's [Nowitzki] shots, maybe Dwight's [Howard] toughness." If this proves true then Utah will have the best player of the NBA in their roster.
However, only the time will tell how Kanter will prove his talents to the Jazz. Until then, he has to wait for the lockout to get over and make the best of the opportunities that if he gets to play in China and with the Turkish
team. As, Kanter got those skills that can take him to the top, the only thing required is application.
For the time being, Kanter is preparing to participate in the Euro-Basket from Turkey. The event will commence late in August and will determine the teams from Europe for the 2012 London Olympics.
