Enes Kanter speaks about Tyson Chandler, Danny Granger and Ricky Rubio – NBA Update
Turkish prodigy Enes Kanter took time out for an interview recently and talked about the NBA players he has met so far. Enes mentioned Dallas Mavericks NBA World Championship winning centre Tyson Chandler and Spain’s EuroBasket
winner Ricky Rubio.
Danny Granger of the Indiana Pacers also came up. Kanter has been in the United States for over two years now but hasn’t been able to feature in competitive basketball because of a variety of reasons. Well, first because the NCAA
ruled him ineligible for college basketball and then because of the NBA lockout.
So fans in the NBA are more or less unfamiliar with the centre who was drafter third overall this year by the Utah Jazz. Kanter though has had some experience of playing against NBA players and he says they have been very helpful
indeed.
He spoke of the how Chandler and company have encouraged him to develop a more direct game and attack the rim as much as possible.
“I played with Tyson Chandler and Danny Granger, they helped me a lot. … They just said to 'Go to the basket, go to the basket. Shoot the ball.' When we played — I played with Tyson Chandler, Danny Granger and Ricky Rubio — they
all say the same thing. Just go to the basket, no one can stop you, you're too strong.” He told the Salt Lake City Tribune.
Kanter was also left very impressed with the talent that these players possessed. He said he was especially in awe of Ricky Rubio. Rubio was drafted by the Minnesota Timberwolves some years back but preferred continuing his basketball
education in Spain.
He has finally signed a contract with the Timberwolves this summer and Kanter believes Minnesota fans are in for a treat. The Turkish centre said Rubio is a player truly blessed and that he has all the makings of a great playmaker.
“First of all, his pass is unbelievable. I never seen any guy pass it like that before. He just started working on his shot. He's shooting so well.”
Minnesota really could do with such a player after being the team with the worst record in the NBA last season. They finished rock bottom in the league and head coach Kurt Rambis was subsequently fired.
Not that Utah Jazz fared off too well. They have been a shadow of themselves since losing super star Deron Williams and Carlos Boozer. With Kanter and a few other talented young players, the Jazz will be looking to start a new
chapter come next season.
Enes would need all the help he can get in order to acclimatize to basketball in the USA after not having played in such a long time.
