Enes Kanter works out with the Cleveland Cavaliers again as the Draft Day looms – NBA Update
The second worst team of the last season Cleveland Cavaliers, who own the first and fourth overall picks in this year’s NBA draft, conducted a second private workout session with the Turkish Basketball player Enes Kanter on Monday.
The 19 year old Kanter who was declared ineligible at Kentucky by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) hasn’t played basketball for more than a year which makes him a mystery man in the eyes of the NBA fans.
Kanter has worked out for a number of teams in the past few weeks and the extent of his abilities and strength is no more a riddle for the NBA executives. The 6 ft 11 in centre, who can also play as power forward is tipped to be
the next influential big man in the league and impressed all with his prowess in the last years’ European Championship .
Kanter’s agent Max Ergul however feels that the Cavaliers are still weighing their options for the picks and said, "Enes told me he liked it. I have no prediction with what they are going to do and I think they are going to wait
and take it down to the very last moment. And why should they announce it now? That would ruin the surprise."
The Cavs have all the reasons to be tentative.
The departure of the two-time MVP LeBron James in the off season left them in tatters and from being the top regular season in the past two years, they crashed to a 20-63 record this season. Fate has now given the Cavaliers another
chance and they are hoping to draft the best available talent from the available pool to relive their glories.
The Cavaliers also have two second round selections and an exception of 14.5 million dollars for trade, which was the outcome of the deal that sent James to Miami.
On Monday, University of Arizona Wildcats’ forward Derrick Williams and University of Kentucky’s point guard Brandon Knight were also present at the workout. There is a possibility that anyone from Williams or Knight might start
their NBA career in the Cavaliers’ uniform. However, the prolific point guard of Duke University Blue Devils, Kyrie Irving is anticipated to be selected by Cleveland with their number 1 pick.
Kanter, at present seems to be the next favourable option for the Cavs’ if the Minnesota Timberwolves leave him on the board with their second overall pick and the Utah Jazz with their third. However, that is very unlikely to happen
as Kanter is tipped to be a hot property and he might just ditch Derrick Williams for the number two pick. If not, Jazz are certainly going to rope the big man in.
The options are wide open for the Cleveland Cavaliers and they can bring themselves back on the track in the next season if they are able to draft the best players with their first round picks.
