Eney Jones captures Women’s 1500m freestyle title – 2012 Marriott USMS Summer Nationals
Eney Jones of DAMM captured gold medal of the Women’s 1500m freestyle in the age class of 50-54 year old on day one of the 2012 Marriott USMS Summer Nationals at the CenturyLink Center Omaha on Thursday, July 5.
The 52-year-old Jones shattered hopes of her opponents by clinching gold medal of the 1500m discipline. She stayed comfortably ahead of her opponents and proved her eligibility for the crown of the event.
With her laudable efforts, she enjoyed an advantage of almost 100 metres over her following swimmer as she posted a time of 19 minutes and 14.14 seconds for gold medal.
Her gold winning effort remained nearly forty-two seconds slower from the USMS record of 18 minutes and 32.76 seconds, marked by S Heim-Bowen during 2008.
The champion was also about forty-five seconds behind the world mark of 18 minutes and 29.28 seconds, made by Lynn Marshall of Canada in 2011.
Gold medallist was chased by Marguerite Meyer of TOC, who remained almost one minute behind and secured silver medal of the discipline by submitting a time of 20 minutes and 15.19 seconds.
Second position holder was followed by Terri L Tyynismaa of OREG, who stayed prominently slower from foregoing finisher and proved her mettle for third position of the event by submitting a time of 21 minutes and 03.99 seconds.
Fourth position of the discipline was secured by Lisa L Zedonis of INDY, who was almost fifty seconds apart and tapped the finishing blockade with the timing of 21 minutes and 53.85 seconds.
The 51-year-old Zedonis was chased by Stephanie Santini of SMS, who completed her swim in fifth best place by clocking a time of 22 minutes and 01.53 seconds.
Similarly, Santini was chased by Rosemary Kelsall of MSBC, who finished sixth in the event with the timing of 22 minutes and 20.62 seconds.
Afterwards, Christine E Pedersen of INDY emerged on the finishing blockade for seventh position as she completed her race by touching the wall with the timing of 23 minutes and 04.27 seconds.
In addition, Jones expressed happiness over her accomplishment in the 1500m event after the session.
