Apparently the ICC are looking to change the result of the controversial 2006 Test Match between Pakistan and England that ended when Pakistan where accused of ball tampering. It will apparently be changed form an abandoned match to a draw.

Do you think this would be a fair decision or do you think it would just open up a whole load of other issues and the ICC should leave the result as it is?

  1. I think it is a ridiculous decision to change the result of the match. The facts of the matter are that Pakistan refused to come back onto the field to play. The match was therefore deemed to be forfeited, and England were awarded the match.

Whatever the rights or wrongs of Darrell Hair's decision to award penalty runs to England and accuse Pakistan of ball-tampering, the behaviour of the Pakistan team on that day was in breach of the rules of the game.

It sends out a message that teams are allowed to behave as they like, and will be allowed to get away with it. Sulking in the dressing room was an inappropriate way of dealing with the problem.

What next, India getting the result of the Sydney 2008 Test match upgraded to a draw because of the poor umpiring decisions on the final day?

But that's the ICC for you, an organisation only concerned with lining its own pockets. And the power base is in Asia (with a little assistance from the Mugabe puppets running the ZCU).

    Grrrr.............

I think I'll leave it now, I'm getting wound up!

PS. Don't know if you're having the same problem, but questions from my contacts aren't being e-mailed to me.

  2. I think its unfair to change the decision because Pakistan team was wrong when they left the field.

  3. its the right thing to do

  4. Very interesting, it's like opening up a healing wound....

after reading the link, in my opinion, Pakistan were delaying to come out (deliberate or not?, no idea), umpire went to asked them to continue playing and gave them time to be on the ground, according to that news article Pakistan informed the umpire that they are going to continue playing, so they blamed the umpire.....  on the other hand are the pakistani guilty?

The fact of the matter is; they didn't come out to finish the game, and in sports if you dont finished the game that's means you declare defeated and that's exactly what had happened ... end of the case,

one would wonder why dig up an old case? you can't change the past...

EDIT;  I've just read the Wikipedea, after the controversial match England and Wales board was force to refund 50 percent of the spectators money for that day and full refund on the 5th day (which game was never occured) they claimed the pakistan board to be responsible and asked to top up the loss income in which pakistan refuse to do so.

I think that opening up the case is pakistani's way to avoid to pay england's financial loss, they agreed to play 2020 in england to waive their fees but if the case reopen and make it obsolete then case dismiss and they dont have to worry about the financial loss, BUT england wouldn't be too happy as 800 thousand pounds loss is a lot of money.

    Complicated matter..

  5. Its good for my country

  6. No.  It will absurd to change the decision after such a long time.

  7. it's possible, result can 'to be changed'.

  8. Wonder if FIFA would reconsider the Hurst goal from 66 or Maradonas 'Hand of God' effort?

Just as ridiculous, only the ICC could even contemplate such a ludicrous idea.

  9. The game was not abandoned,it was a win to England. The umpires accused the Pakistan team of ball tampering and so Pakistan protested against that decision by not coming on to the field. But now it has been proved that there wasn't any ball tampering, so in essence Pakistan was being wrongly accused.I think it is fair that the game should be a draw and the relations between the two teams would be better in the future. The past cannot be changed but wrong decisions should be acknowledged and reversed if possible.

  10. There was gross mistake on both sides ,the pakistan captain on one hand and the umpire on the other.the captain was wrong in refusing to come on to the ground in time after tea intervel and the umpire instead of meadiating and see that the match continued, suddenly decides to award the match to England. It was fair enough to declare it abandoned and leave it alone. It does not make any sense now to declare it as draw.I feel now it is time to think ahead for ICC and see that such hasty decisions are not taken by umpires.

  11. Regardless of the "reason", the match wasn't "finished", so I think thats fair that the match will go into the record books as a draw.
