Question:

Engaged Co-Worker trying to save for a house?

One of my co-workers just got engaged, so we have lots to talk about during our breaks as we're both planning weddings with in a month of one another.

I'm not invited to her wedding but I would like to give her a small engagement gift.

during one of our conversations she mentioned that her and her Fiance really want to buy a house after getting married. She doesn't want to ask guests for money but any monetary gifts they receive they plan to put towards a down payment.

My other co-workers and I are all going to pitch in and make a little contribution to her house fund. Between all of us it will only be about $100 if that.

I know some companies have funds you can contribute to in order to help a couple with their honeymoon. Is there anything out there like that but for a first home?

If not any creative ideas for how we can present the gift to let her know we care about her and want her to have the future both of them want?

  1. Buy a bird house and give her the cash attached to the bird house with a note about the money going to her "home fund" :-)

  2. Yes! there are registries for brides for a down payment for a home!

as for the gift, you could put in a card and tell her about the registry as an engagement gift! that way, she could include it in he registry plans and maybe pull off that house sooner than she thinks!

  3. You guys are some great co-workers!

100$ is a great gift to recived!

  4. You could get some raffia or thin ribbon and "tie" it around the $100 bill. Then attach a cutout house shape and key shape (if youre not crafty enough to make yourself from cardstock, go to a scrapbooking store they always have that kind of stuff) to the ribbon. Slip the whole thing into your congratulatory card.

  5. Make a gingerbread house, Or a house of legos, or a card house, or something like that, and put the cash inside. In the card say "for your happy home"

OR give them a plant and a card with the cash and in the card write "we wanted to help plant the seed for a happy home"
