My fiancee and i are both in the military, stationed together, overseas. We are planning on getting married soon and were shooting for the end of this year. The only problem is that she cannot get any leave to go back to the states. I have enough leave to go back home if i wanted but i wont leave without her. We dont know whether to get married here or just wait a little longer to go back home and do it. We really want to get married so we don't know what to do. We're stationed in Germany, so if we do it here we fall under the German law. What should we do?

  1. You can both get married on base over seas, there should be a chaplain that can marry you. It is a legal marraige. Once the both of you can make it home have a reception with your families. Goodluck!

  2. Just wait dude.  Plan a nice huge wedding for when you guys return.

  3. That is a personal question that hte two of you need to decide together.  Being in the military, you can get married on base and it would fall under US law, so that isn't anything to worry about.

You both could start planning your wedding stateside from over there.  It is tough, but it can be done.  I planned a Vegas (thats where I am from) wedding from Mississippi.  Then at the end of the year, when she will have leave (2.5 days a month adds up fast) you both can take leave and go home and get married.  OR you could get married now and then jsut go home and celebrate with your family after.  Even do a second wedding in a year or two, lots of military couples do that.

Unfortunately, the deciding factor to look at for both is probably money.  If you get married now, you can start saving up that extra BAH, BAS and COLA that you will be receiving to use on a celebration at the end of the year.  Or you could wait and just save what you are making now.  But please, don't let money be the ultimate decision maker because then you are starting a marriage off on the wrong principles already.

    Good luck!

  4. Go to the netherlands. The process is swift and relativily easy (the germans asks for sooo much, although I  have seen many military couples getting married in Germany, it just takes some time).

Ask about getting married in the Netherlands, There is a mandatory stay (3-4 days I think), but other than that, all you need is to file it and translate documents into Dutch and pay for a filing fee. You will be wed in no time, besides, who can top teh scenery in Holland?

Consult your JAG office and ask about how to get married there. The installation chaplian can marry you too, ya know?

    Good luck and congratulations

PS/ A quick Vegas getaway may be an option for the both of you. Talk to the CO about granting some leave. Unless she is in pre-deployment (in that casem, your only option is to get married there, it's  possible)

    Good luck
