Question:

Engagement Party Food? What should we serve? Ideas?

Ok, so our engagement party is just 4 short weeks away. It's going to be a cocktail party hosted by my parents at their Beverly Hills home starting at 7:30pm and ending at 10:00pm. About 50 guests will be attending. Cocktail attire is required and valet parking is provided and there will be a bartender to serve drinks, just to give you an idea about the event. I don't know what to serve though. We aren't going to do a sit down meal because it is a cocktail party so I need ideas for Hors D'oeuvres and bite size foods. Any suggestions will help. What would you want to eat? What have you served at a cocktail party? Any websites you know of that would be helpful? Thank you so much!!

  1. I just threw a surprise engagement party for some friends, and here's what was on the menu:

    bacon-wrapped dates

    chocolate dipped strawberries

little pinwheels (made with green tortilla and a cream cheese/jalapeno filling)

mini beef tenderloins on rye toast with a dollop of horseradish and a sprinkle of cheese

a fruit tower with fresh sliced strawberries, grapes, peaches, apples, kiwis, and blueberries, with a yogurt dip in the center

a cheese plate with assorted crackers

Are you having a caterer, or making the food yourself? All of the foods above were DIY, but any good caterer can make those or do better!

  2. Shimp Cocktail

    Bacon wrapped scollaps

    pigs in a blanket

    various cheeses with crackers

    mini-meatballs

    cucumber sandwiches

    bruscetta

  3. Why don't you ask your celebrity caterer who also does movie star weddings?

Fine. This is what I had at my engagement party. Mind you, it wasn't in "Beverly Hills" and did not have valet parking or limos. Plus it was in 1992 so this stuff might not be trendy enough for a chic Beverly Hills party, but I will offer my meager menu anyway for you and your s****. friends to mock.

    Coconut shrimp

    Caviar on buttered toast points

    Cream Cheese balls

    paper wrapped chicken

    beef tenderloin pinwheels

rumaki -- chicken livers wrapped in bacon

artisan cheese with apples and pears

    sausage in a blanket

    stuffed new potatoes

fruit kabobs --we used a whole pineapple as a "pincushion" it looked kind of cool.

I'd do it this way again because it was yummy and beautiful, but I am sure you will laugh and mock me because I am from the Midwest and my parents did not have a Beverly Hills mansion.

But my dad, who was a school guidance counselor, did want to give me a nice engagement party and I thought he did!
