I have recently become engaged. I have a family diamond that I would like to have reset. Anyone have any satisfactory or unsatisfactory dealings with an online jeweler for ring settings? Thanks.

  1. Try here: http://www.jamesallen.com/engagement-rin... they have very nice engagement rings with good reputation.

  2. it's just me, but I would find a *local reputable* jeweler (not a chain store or an on-line store) to reset your stone.

I know where I live some of the chain stores (every kiss begins w/...) have "lost"  or swapped out lesser quality gemstones on people when they have reset stones for them.  (if the problem proves to be larger than our area then I'm expecting to hear about a class action suit or the chain to go out of business or be sold).  Now if a well known chain has employees or management who are willing to steal from customers when you're in town, then I'd be very leery of an on-line business.

  3. I have never done this but I would suggest going to a jewlery store rather than online. I am not sure how repitable online jewlers are.

  4. My boyfriend just got a family diamond of mine reset and asked me to marry him. He just went to zales or whatever and they helped him find a setting that made the diamond look the best. They ended up not having anything there that he really liked so they helped him look through catalogs and he found something that they had to order. He said the people were very helpful! On line jewelers make me nervous. Even if you are just buying the setting...you never know what you will end up with...

  5. Print off a picture of the setting you like and take it to a reputable jeweler.  They will probably have it or be able to get it for you and you will know it is legit.  Then they can set the diamond for you also.

    Good luck.

  6. Stop !  You can't do this online.

This is something that can only be done face-to-face, especially with a family heirloom. It is important you meet & discuss what you want & to manage the handling of the diamond, the sizing, setting suggestions for your to see immediately & understand.

Simply look for a 'reputable' & certified jeweler near your home.

    Good Luck.

  7. I personally would not use an on-line service for something this important, those companies are hard to regulate and you may find your family diamond substituted for a imitation and may never get your ring back....go to someplace local and check them out with the better business bureau first.  Congratulations on your engagement!!
