Me and my boyfriend are getting to the point where we are talking about marriage! We want to be engaged but we want to have a long engagement. I found this amazing ring that I want and I showed him and he LOVED it. I was just wondering if getting a guy a ring was weird because I found one for him that he would LOVE but I'm just not sure if it is right to get the man a ring before you are married...I mean they dont really have engagement rings for guys. Just wondering about this...any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

this is the ring that I want

  1. Traditionally, the engagement ring is for the girl only. The clue is in the names of the rings.. the one you like for yourself is an 'Engagement' ring. The one for him is a 'wedding band'. Guys don't tend to get engagement rings. But you could consider getting him that ring as a wedding ring. You don't have to be all traditional about it if you don't want to! Ask him what he wants.

Just one thing... the ring you want... it's ridiculously expensive. How old are you guys? Don't drain his bank account! Personally, I think it's a bit too much... too many diamonds...rather ugly... but of course it's your choice!

    Good luck!

  2. in my opinion it should be up to the couple and everyone is different. i am not a fan of tradition so whatever you both say goes. the only problem i see is being stuck with his engagement ring cuz i get that you dont want him to have the same ring after the wedding. I'm guessing u wld figure that out so go with it girl, life is short, and mutual love is rare.

p.s they are both beautiful rings.

  3. There is a lot of protocol and whatnot for getting engaged, and traditionally no a man does not get an engagement ring.

However, you two are a unique and individual couple. If you two choose to show you love and commitment for each other by each having an engagement ring, then go for it!

Rules and traditions are just things other people have done and continue doing. ^_^  Best of luck and congratulations!

  4. Both rings are gorgeous. Your ring especially- of course. As for him wearing a ring, there are no set rules anymore.  I mean people get married under water and get ring tattoos instead of actual rings, I think him wearing a ring won't be TOO weird. It is really up to him first off and then you. If he wants to wear his ring before you get married then great, if he doesn't then that's fine too. It's a nice piece of jewelry whether or not you are married. What's the worse that could happen? People will think he is married? Good! Maybe girls will stay away! haha :-D

  5. love the rings!!! the female ring is very gorgeous! and ur bf's is soo beautiful!

of course u both can have engagement rings! y not

  6. Go for it.I really like the guy ring.

  7. First, ask yourself if he wears rings?

Here is a brief history of engagement rings around the world!

  8. Google diamond engagement rings first. You might find better deals online than buying at Zales.

  9. Plenty of guys get engagement rings nowadays, so it won't it really isn't that odd, although it still isn't very common. I would say do what makes you two happy =]

  10. I like the rings you chose- nice!  To be honest, I think most people wouldn't understand a guy wearing an engagement ring.  More likely, people would just assume he's already married.  But, if your boyfriend is open to wearing it, I say go for it!

Otherwise, you could give him the ring as "an early wedding gift" and he can save it for the big day.

    Best wishes!

  11. I think it's best that he waits til the wedding to get and wear the wedding band.

Perhaps a watch, or id bracelet, or some sort of manly necklace...

  12. A big thing to think about is whether that engagement ring come with a wedding band or if you are going to have to get one custom made, my cousin had a beutiful engagement ring, and it was going to cost the same amount to ahve a custom made band to go with it! So she keeps her fancy ring for specila and has a slightly more modest ring for everyday, so they could buy it as a set.

Of course you want your ring to be exactly what you want, but that may be something to think about!!!

I am a tradition girl and I would give him that ring for the wedding, not as an engagement band, but thats just me, do what makes you happy!!
