Question:

Engagement ring is too big. Help!?

My bf proposed last Saturday, and I absolutely love the style of the ring, but it's a just a bit too big. Is there anything I can wear under it or below it to make it fit a bit better? I've seen some girls wearing clear rubber bands, but I have no idea where to get them.

It's about half a size too large, and I don't want to get it resized since multiple resizing can damage it. All of the women in my family tend to get larger and bonier knuckles and fingers as they get older, so I assume my fingers will also get a bit larger. As of now, the ring not that large, but it still feels a bit loose around my finger.

Any help is appreciated.

  1. put clear tape...at the end of the ring

  2. First off congratulations! If i were you I'd go to your local jewlery store and they should have metal ring guards there. The jewelers should size it to your liking right there. It's about $5 bucks

  3. Wal Mart or other discount stores often have the little clear plastic tubes that you can put on the ring to make it a bit snugger.

If it is still too loose I would get it resized.  As long as you don't have to have it sized more than a few times the metal will be fine.

  4. Get it resized. You might get "bonier knuckles" in 20 years - are you gonna risk losing the ring the whole time? The metal sizing bands that you can get at the jewelry store will damage the ring more than resizing it. Just take it to a good jeweler and have it sized properly; you're over-thinking it. Congrats.

  5. I would tell him that it needs to be resized.  Go with him to the place of purchase and do it.  Some of them offer free ring resizing because they want you to purchase the wedding rings there. They also have ring guards also that you can put on the top or bottom.

  6. Get it resized.  A good jeweler should not cause damage to your ring when resizing it.  If you don't you are more likely to loose it because it falls off, or hurt your finger because the stone twists around.

    Congrats!

  7. First of all congrats, secondly your BF is now your fiance. I work in the bridal industry, and if I have one piece of advice it is make sure it fits. Rings that are to big, look bad, and get lost. Same thing with dresses, shoes, and all other aspects of a wedding.

Get it resized. If your fingers get fat and knuckely in a decade or two , have your husband buy you a new ring. But please make sure this ing fits you right.

You only get one , and it should be perfect for you.

    Good luck.

  8. Just get it resized! If anything happens to it the jeweller is liable. I would definitely take it to where he bought it though. I think wearing a rubber band or anything would look silly. You shouldn't need to have it resized multiple times. Just once now and then maybe once when you're older and bonier or maybe larger.

  9. I would recommend that you resize the ring. 1/2 size isn't too bad and should not damage the integrity of the ring. I had mine resized 1/2 size when I got married but later had it resized back to its original size after I had my son.

If you really don't want to resize it, wear a simple band that fits well above (closer to your knuckles) to keep the engagement ring in place.

    Congrats!

  10. Go to a jeweler and see if they have the plastic bands. You might also be able to find them online.

  11. A jeweler can put four or so little dome-shaped sizing bumps around the inside of the band to make it fit you now, and simply have them removed later. That way, no wrestling with rubber bands or adhesive pads. My FH had this done inside his ring, which can't be re-sized.

  12. Honestly the safest way to do this and not risk losing your ring is to have it sized.

I've had a number of pieces of jewelry and had them sized up and down with no problem.

If it is a quality piece and the job is done by a good jeweler you should have no problem with sizing.

  13. Go to jeweler and get a sizing bar.

How big is it? If it slips right off, you may have to get it completely redone =(

But if it just feels loose, then a bar would be fine.

    Congratulations!!

  14. I inherited a huge ring,  I took it to the shop and they put a gold bridge looking thing on the back of it, and it fits fine now.  It is a lot nicer then the clear rubber bands.

  15. my engagement ring is like that even tho its down to 51/4 lol. However, i find that when i try on my wedding band it fits so nicely. It doesn't twirl around my finger anymore cuz the band under it seems to strangely keep it in place so i'd recommend you try it with the band first.... unless ofcourse, you aren't using your engagement ring and will get a ring set after, then i suggest you get it altered, take it to a good jeweller, i doubt the resizing will affect the strength of the ring. All the best to you!
