Will a 6 prong setting be too overwhelming for a .50 carat diamond? I was looking for a picture of a similar ring on a finger, but didnt have any luck..

  1. I would talk to a jeweler. My ring is 6 prong and so is my sister in law's. Mine is a carat; hers is 3/4 carat. It looks fine on hers.

My guess is it would be fine...six prongs tend to be more secure.

  2. It's your personnal choice.  Do you like something that looks a little more bold or stronger, or something thinner and less obvious.   Ask a jewelry maker who does custome stuff to work something up on a computer.  We did this for our wedding rings.  It didn't cost us anything for him to work it up, he may already have something he can show you to compare.

  3. No, it would look fine -

  4. I have a .44 with 4- prongs.  My husband picked that one so that more light could enter under the stone,  I don't think that a six prong setting would be overwhelming at all.

  5. yes, i think so.

  6. Mine's a .86 carat, and six prong, and looks fine...

Plus the jewler recommended six prong to my hubby, cause it was safer....

I've seen smaller stones on six prong, and they look fine....:
