Question:

Engagement rings? Online Buy?

My boyfriend and I have been looking at engagement rings and he will have about 3500 to spend, 1700 down and the rest 4 months later (bonus). So we need to finance for 6 months at the most. But I am wondering where would be the best place to buy a nice ring at that price. Here are some styles I like:

These are just settings, no center stone. And I am really wanting 1 ct center stone. Any ideas of a retail store that will offer financing and have rings in these styles/settings. We would rather not order online (or we would just order from site above), but we want to see the ring prior. I have looekd at most well-known retail stores, but no luck in our price range.

And as anyone ever ordered a ring online? What was your experience?

  1. Unfortunately you probably won't be able to find a 1 carat diamond in your price range.  Even if you go for a low quality diamond (poor colour and clarity grade) a 1 carat diamond for under $3500 (plus setting) is not really feasible.

Check out bluenile.com, they have the best prices for diamonds and you can pick your setting too (but they are not quite as intricate as the one's you linked too).  Buying online is a great way to save money and get a great quality diamond, but it seems your taste is a bit above your budget, and there is no web site that will make a $10,000 ring only cost $3500.

My suggestion is to go to bluenile.com and read their diamond education information and search for diamonds in your price range.  That way you will get an idea of what you afford.

My fiance did all his research on this site, and almost bought from them, except his dad personally knows a jewelry that agreed to make him a ring for wholesale price and not take any profit on it.  That being said, my engagement ring cost $3500 (wholesale price for the diamond and no profit was made by the jeweler) and my diamond is a gorgeous, excellent cut, colourless .6 carat stone.  It's a Canadian diamond, which are a bit more expensive, but it's not that much of a premium that it could have been a 1 carat or something.

Go for quality over size for a diamond (that's what I prefer anyway).  Buying a high quality diamond ensures a great sparkle, which is the best part of a diamond in my opinion.  I have small fingers, so .6 carats is more that I wanted or needed, it looks huge on my 3.5 size finger.  And it is such a high quality cut, colour and clarity that I seriously get compliments from strangers on how beautiful my ring and it's sparkle is.

    Good Luck!

  2. 1. Never Ever buy retail

    2. Gem and Jewelry shows

    3 Ebay.

you should be able to get what you want at about half of what you would pay if you just walked into a Jewlery store.  If you were in my area,, heck.. I can tell you where to go...

    call/try

    Cameo Coins & Collectibles

    John L. Sullivan

    444 Maple Ave E.

    Vienna, VA

    22180

    O: 703-281-7053

    F: 703-281-7054

he can get you ANY classification diamond you want at way below jewlery store prices.. and just FYI.. jewelry stors dont really have nice diamonds.. for what they carry, you might as well go to Wall Mart.

Mountings are a rip but if you get the pub form Gem and Jewelry, you can order a mounting at a significant savings.. and they got them all.. so folow the URL.

  3. you have exactly my taste. i've never bought one online, i just wanted to say thanks for the websites! oh, and kays has a few that style.

  4. Wow. I LOVE The 2nd Ring In The Top Line In The Tulip Collection.

    I Love Anything Princess Cut.

Maybe You Should Have A Look In Actual Jewelry Stores First. Pick A Style You Know You Would Definitely Like To Have, Then If You Don't Find It In A Store & For Cheaper Then By All Means Buy It Online.

  5. Try here http://www.jamesallen.com/designer-jewel...

I think you can also find a coupon which is good for 10-15% off.

  6. Skip the financing, and just find a ring within the price range - you should be able to get a set for that price.

  7. My H2B got my ring online. It's truly amazing and once of a kind! Check out http://www.abazias.com (that's where mine came from) and also try http://www.bluenile.com

If you do your research on the company and feel good about it, then purchase it online!

  8. those rings are beautiful but if you are going to spend that much money on line i suggest you find a place that you can go to and make the purchase in person that way there will be no miss understandings.

  9. Well, we ordered my ring on line from www.overstock.com and had nothing but a positive experience.  The ring was 10X more beautiful when we received it.  We didn't finance, we paid for it outright, but I'm sure there are lots of places that will finance you.  Good luck!

  10. forget that tulip stuff, the sareen rings are beautiful.  I would never order something that expensive off the internet, you want personal attention from someone at a store and a name and a face you can deal with if something goes wrong.

  11. Blue Nile is supposed to be very good and reputable.

I still like the idea of going to a local jeweler and choosing something there.  My ring was actually custom designed by my fiance's brother in law, but if it hadn't been I would've pushed to go to the jeweler in our town because they've got over 50 years of experience and have a solid reputation and do beautiful work.

  12. Nix the retail stores AND the online buying and go to a reputable, private jeweler in your area, an importer is best. He can show you settings and stones and make you anything you want at a very nice price. You also get the relationship of having a private jeweler for the rest of your life, which is a huge bonus because there is a bond of trust. Make sure all your items are certified and insured! Talk to friends and family, they may already know or deal with someone who you could use as well.

    Good luck!
