  1. No, it's not. It's perfectly fine to buy them online, BUT make sure you keep ALL receipts.

  2. I'm really giving a lot of unpopular answers today--but yes.  I think it's a bad idea.

Maybe not a bad idea to purchase the stone (since there are set standards and you will know exactly what you're purchasing), but the setting I think really needs to be seen.

Research is vital in selecting a ring and I just don't think you can do so with online shopping.  Rings really don't photograph well, and their color can sometimes be misleading.

You should go to a number of jewelers to price things out and select your favorites.  If your jeweler is pushing you to buy right then, they're not a good jeweler and you shouldn't go back.  Most jewelers know what a hefty purchase a ring is and should approach it with a no-pressure attitude.

After you've been to at least three stores, you should weigh which ring you like the best, by what sounds most reasonable to your budget, what is physically most appealing, and what most fits your style.  Then, work with that jeweler for customizations.  Get a contract before you put down any money.  You want to be sure that this ring is insured and that it can be refunded within 30 if something goes wrong or your bride-to-be says no.

  3. Not really a bad idea...just make sure it's not a no-name place or a fly-by-night internet company! Check their return policy and research the company before you buy!

  4. Nope, we got mine off of eBay. I wanted an antique ring, and all the stores selling them were selling them for outrageous prices. There are many stores, on Ebay, with awesome reviews, that get rid of additional stock, or stock that doesn't move so well. I couldn't be happier and my ring appraises for almost triple what he paid for.

  5. Nope! My fiance got my ring from www.brilliantearth.com, and I'm beyond happy with it. As long as you do your research (like, go into jewelery stores beforehand to look at diamonds) and you know what you want, I think it's actually better to order online because you can get some awesome deals.

The website I mentioned above is in Canada, so there was so tax, and shipping was free.

As others have said, be sure to save all your receipts and make sure the store sends you all the certification documents that come with your diamond as well. Most online stores will have return policies as well if you're not happy with it.

    Good luck!

  6. I think most rings online look a lot different from seeing them in the store.

  7. Buying engagement ring online is usually cheaper and the quality is better.

Try one of the reputable online stores like http://www.jamesallen.com or http://www.bluenile.com

  8. Not at all.  Just make sure you read up about the company you are buying from, read testimonials, find out return policies, warranties and things of that nature.  And always read the small print!  Good Luck

  9. No, I don't think so, you can buy from amazon , it's very cheap than in stores.

    Take a look here.

  10. No. Three of my cousins, two of my sisters and one of my brothers got them from the internet.

  11. Its only a bad idea if you don't do the necessary research. Its perfectly fine if you read through EVERYTHING and know that the seller is legit. Just like everything on the internet, its always fine as long as you take certain precautions and know what you are doing.
