I am trying to built up my college resume and i am attempting to become an engineer. I am on a robotics team, but thats about it.

Do any of you know how a teen can get an engineering license? Do you know what kind one can get?

Also, are there any other activities that i can do to boost up my resume and just benefit from myself in the field?

Thank you.

  1. You can't get a professional engineer until after four years on the work force after graduating. (I believe)

Join a society like ASME or whatever type you're in.

  2. not only do you have to have afour year engineering or science degree, you will have to take a test EIT enginerring in training, then wait several years working in an engineering related job, then take the Professional Engineers test.  The test are 8 hours each.

  3. As a teen, you don't have the education or experience to obtain an engineering license.

This license requires a person to have a bachelor of science in engineering, to pass a Fundamentals of Engineering exam, and to work under the supervision of a registered professional engineer for four years before taking the 8-hour NCEES Professional Engineer examination.  The applicant must also provide work references 9from a licensed professional engineer) and to commit to an oath of ethics. Most people are in their mid to late 20's before they can take the P.E. exam.

If you are in high school, take all the math and science courses that you can fit into your schedule and reasonably handle while maintaining your grades.  Suggested extra-curricular activities would include  mathletes and science fairs.  A high school academic advisor could tell you about the specific programs available at your school.

If you are in college, the curriculum to obtain an engineering degree in your chosen field would  be available from the department that manages that program.  If you are in college, you should have an academic advisor that could help you.

  4. If you are not already in college, then the most you can do to build up your resume for a potential engineering college is to take as many math/science classes in highschool as possible. It also depends on what type of engineer you want to be: for instance, a traffic engineer would have to been good at computer simulations/formulas and field measurements, a structural engineer would have to be good with blueprints/drafting, etc.

The only real license it sounds like you could hope for at this point is the E.I.T. (Engineer in Training) license. However, the test is very difficult and is usually taken after 2-4 years of College level engineering classes while still in college so you remember everything. I know people with Ph.D's in engineering who 10 years later tried to take the E.I.T. exam and failed repeatedly because the exam covers such a wide range of engineering topics that the average engineer doesn't use in day-to-day life.
