I drive a Ford and my brother's got a Honda. With $4 a gallon we sure need to look at ways (little known ones) to boost our gas mileage.

  1. the tires need to be in balance and have proper air. Follow tuneups making sure that the spark plugs are gapped correctly. This might get a funny look but I do know of plugs in cars who were checked by a bud of mine to discover that they werent properly gapped.

  2. If you've got a diesel engine, install a propane injection system to increase engine gas mileage. Take it from me: I've got propane injection on my Ford and I've seen my mileage increase from 12-14 mpg to 21-23 mpg.

Propane helps the diesel burn more efficiently and is great at scavenging fuel for combustion. This means more miles per gallon and a burn rate of 90-95% (i.e., less fuel wasted during combustion). Propane really cleans up your emissions and makes the engine runs more smoothly.

  3. The best way is to make sure your tire pressure is correct. Other than that, air filter, fuel filter, spark plugs, and taking off easy from the red lights. - you wont believe the difference speed makes on your mileage

  4. If you don't plan to be driving people around, removing the seats from the car helps. Also, take out useless junk from your trunk. Its proven that the more weight on the car, the more gas you use.

  5. I have an older car, its a Volvo, I was getting 22-23mpg on regular unleaded and a friend said he saves about $6 per tank by using premium higher octane.  I tried it and did the math and now get 27mpg.  Also I was told with a k&n air filter (I think thats it) and some new plugs (theyre $5 a piece) I can get 30mpg out of this car.  Pretty good considering how heavy it is, no aluminum or plastic on this one, and also how many miles it has (almost 300,000)  I considered getting a new car, but why buy a brand new toyota or something and still get 30mpg, plus I am a little scared of plastic cars.  Good luck.

  6. tire pressure full, clean air filter. other than that there's some more, but they're not as effective as the first two. the other one would be to slow down. go 55. that's the speed of the best fuel economy.

  7. Best way if you cannot get another car is to change your driving habits. Some ways are:

Do not floor the car everywhere

    Drive smoothly

Inflate your tires to tires specifications

Drive on low RPMs when cruising on a manual car

Put your car on overdrive on freeways for automatics

    Avoid steep hills

    Avoid stopping and accelerating

40 seconds is good enough to warm your car but still should take it easy driving the first minute

Letting your car idle for 1 minute uses the same amount of gas needed to start the car

Use the right motor oil for your car, nothing heavy

    Don't speed

Having AC off and windows up saves a little bit of gas but not much

Email me if you need more info cause thats all i think of right now.
