Engine Way too hot...can you help?

Should my engine oil dip stick be too hot too touch after the car has been shut off for 2 hours? Everything under the hood is still too hot to touch 2-3 hours after it has been shut off. The car also dies while i'm driving it, and we have narrowed it down to a sensor or something else getting too hot and making the car die. What can I do to make sure my engine is running as cool as possible?

  1. change oil,coolant and check radiator,thermostat,water pump,hoses

  2. have you checked the thermostat ,to se if its working properly........

  3. start with the basics,  check the radiator, thermostat, water pump, and see if any of those are your problem

  4. If you have been driving til it shuts itself down from overheating it is probably toasted.Repeated temps that high will kill an engine.

  5. Have a full check on your radiator. YOu seems to have a BIG problem.!!After 2-3 hours its still hot to touch?? That funny...should be able to touch almost all parts by then unless u have thin skin!

You can install a oil cooler kit to cool the engine oil. Or u can use better coolant like Wetter Water, a product of Redline. It cools faster than normal coolant. You can also get a carbon fibre bonnet with vents so that the engine heat flows out better and faster. But this will cost you quite a sum of money for a good carbon fibre bonnet.

  6. It seams like you have an exhaust leak next to your dipstick, or missing a heat deflector.

  7. you are driving an overheated aluminum engine and i am surprised it didn't already burn up. Take it to a mechanic.

  8. Before you start trying a bunch of things, you need to know what the actual engine temperature  is.   Get a temperature gun and take readings in different places of your engine and radiator. Todays engines run about 190 so it takes quite a while for them to cool off when they are just sitting with no air circulating through them.
