  1. Okay, start from scratch.#1 Have the trouble codes read and write them down. #2 Operate vehicle normally paying attention to any noticable drivability concerns(surging , hesitation, stalling, etc.) until the light comes back on. #3 Have the codes read again and write them down. Compare these to the codes from step one,any the same? If not concentrate on the second code(s) for your vehicles diagnosis. Don't just throw parts at it by what the code explaination list tells you, different systems can generate the same code(s) in the PCM. For ex: A lean code could tell you right off that you have a faulty 02 sensor when in actuality the pcv valve was repl. with the wrong one for your vehicles calibration causing the same code to appear. A proper diagnosis must be followed to determine the cause of the MIL to illuminate. There are manuals available to the public that have step by step emmission diagnostic schematics. Once you have done all this be sure to clear the codes from the PCM.

  2. Are you fixing the stuff setting the CEL off or just fixing random stuff hoping it fixes the problem?

Take your truck somewhere like Autozone and let them run the codes to see what the problem is.  They will do it for free.
