Engine maker Renault says Red Bull Racing is their top priority – Formula 1 news
Renault, F1 engine providers, have admitted that they provide engines to several teams but Red Bull Racing will remain their top priority.
The CEO and chairman of Renault, Carlos Ghosn, has stated that they are ready to provide their engines to as many teams as allowed by the FIA rules and regulations.
“We will provide as many teams as is allowed by the rules - because there are some rules and we will follow the rules - but the technology is not limited to just some teams,” Ghosn told ESPNF1. “We are ready to offer our technology to more teams, but on
the condition that we do not dilute the attention on the teams that are winning. For us preserving a very strong technical support for Red Bull is a priority. We want to make sure that we are always on the teams that wins and which can compete.”
Renault has also welcomed the replacement of the current V8 engines with the V6 turbo charged and environmental friendly engines which will be implemented from the 2014 F1 season. Ghosn said that when in 2008, they had decided to become an engine provider
for the sport; they had done so on the condition that F1 will be introducing environmental friendly technologies. He added that they had not asked for any immense advancement like electric cars but just for a technology that will not harm the environment.
He stated that since that is what is happening so the change is positively welcomed by them.
Red Bull Racing has been winning both the constructors’ and drivers’ title successively for the last three years and all of them have been with cars powered by the Renault engines.
After securing the constructors’ title this season in Austin, Renault’s Cyril Dumont had stated that this was a huge success for their partnership with the Austrian team. He added that surely their path to the championship was not easy as there was an engine
related DNF with Mark Webber’s car which they are going to solve and prevent from happening again.
Besides Red Bull, Renault is currently powering the cars for Williams F1, Caterham and Lotus F1.
