Question:

Engine problems? 2001 Pontiac Grand Am

We have been looking at a 2001 Grand Am SE with a quad 4 engine. Some mechanics I have talked to said that they have had problems with this particular brand of vehicle with bad engines/head gasket leaking or other engine problems. On the other hand, I have read some good reviews regarding this car. The seller is asking $2900.00 and the vehicle is in very good condition. It rides smooth and quiet, has 61,000 miles on it and is within our budget for a vehicle at this time. We will also be purchasing an extended warranty. We're looking for opinions from anyone that may have or had this vehicle. Have you had any major problems with it, or has your experience been good? I have come to the conclusion that practically every car has some sort of deficiency or another. I would really welcome any input.

Thanks!

  1. It sounds like a really good deal. MY experience with these cars is all that i have seen have high miles, and hardly any maintance done. Yes, they are known for headgasket problems but at higher miles. Based on what you have I would recommend it. You should anticipate normal maintance items.

  2. One of my friends has a 2001 Grand Am with over 100,000 miles on it and hasn't had any problems other than routine maintenance (oil changes, tune-ups, brakes, etc.)
