Engine question

Ok i asked a question earlier bout engines, i have a honda civic 2000 si and i asked what difference was in a D16Y8 and a D16Y7, and i got some guys sayin that i should forget bout this engines because this are not for this honda civic si, but my car has a D16Y8 engine which is the one that wrecked and thats why im tryin to find another engine for it, somehow i cant find the same kind a D16Y8 maybe ill have to look more, but my question is, what other engine could work for my car that could be either as powerful as a D16Y8 or more? without havin to change anything or too much stuff..?

If your car has a D series motor then it is not a true si. the 99-00 si's all came with B series motors, which are dual overhead cam and quite a bit more powerful. Maybe this will help you out

As stated above, if it's a Canadian version Si, then it is in fact a D16Y8 in there.  If it's a USDM Si,  then someone either switched out the engine for a lesser one, or bought some parts & rebadged an EX as an Si.  

The D16Y7 has different pistons than the Y8, as well as a completely different head.  

If you stock head isn't damaged, then you could fairly easily put the stock head onto the Y7 block.  You'd get more power out of it, because the Y8 head has a smaller combustions chamber, which will bump up compression verses a full stock Y8 engine.  This is commonly refered to as a "Mini-Me" swap.  Here is a link with more information (and a parts lists) to do this swap: http://www.d-series.org/forums/showthrea...  

You could technically swap in an OBD1 JDM D15B VTEC engine, which has roughly the same power as the D16Y8.  There are some issues with this though.  You'd have to get a new OBD1 ('92-'95) distributor from a D16Z6, and convert the wiring because it has different plugs than your stock one does.  I believe the Y8 has a knock sensor, and the D15B might not have a place to connect one to the block.  Some D15B's come with a VTEC pressure switch, but a lot of them don't, so you'd have to buy one for a D16Z6 in order for VTEC to work (the stock ECU for the D15B controls VTEC engagement, instead of using a VTEC pressure switch).  You may also need to swap out the internals of the stock alternator into the casing of the one you get with the D15B, because they have 2 different plugs.

All in all, you should just try harder to find another D16Y8 for the easiest solution.  So many people swap them out in favor for B-series engines, so one is bound to turn up sooner or later.

if your car was a 2000 civic si it would have a 1.6L dohc d16 engine. if your car has a d16y8 which is a single cam  then your car is an ex ..all 96-2000 civic exs should have a d16y8  which is a 1.6 L  sohc...Your problem is that your calling around looking for a si engine when your car is an ex ...thats why you cant find what you need

You must have the Canadian 96-00 Honda Civic Si, which would explain how you got stuck with a D16Y8.

You should swap in a B series.
