Engine sqeals after I turn it off?

my car engine makes a squealing noise for a second after I turn off the engine. I've noticed it when I get home from running errands but it has also done it when I simply moved the car and the engine was still cold.

  1. Your drive belt could be loose. Since it is rubber, it will squeal if it is loose, more so if the engine is still cold. My buddy's Chevy used to do the same thing you describe, although his was noisier and had 200,000 miles on it.

You have to adjust the tensioner. If you don't know how to do it, take to a mechanic and have him do it for you.

  2. Check your radiator hoses

  3. drive belt,vacuum leak

  4. Sounds like a bad drive belt, but they will typically make noise while starting or driving also.

  5. i have heard several diesels do this over the years. it is the engine fighting two bits of science, momentum verses compression. if you are not driving a diesel, then ignore this.
