Engine trouble, shuddering and shifting gears?

I have a '97 pontiac Grand Prix, engine K. For the past two weeks, my car has been reluctant to upshift from 3rd to 4th gear - at least, until it warms up. Now, it is also shuddering/jerking with and without the gas. The movement feels like a "blank space" first, with no engine movement, then two explosions are going off at once, making the car jerk. It also had to warm up to shift from 4th gear into 5th. Is it the spark plugs or the trans?

Sounds like a definite trans problem...i wouldn't jump into a trans flush as they can sometimes work crud loose in the system and cause more damage, especially in higher mileage vehicles that have not seen transmission maintenance.

I would think you need to take it into a reputable mechanic and have them diagnose your transmission.  Many of the nationwide chains will give you a free diagnosis...

im guessing its manual if it is its prob a clutch problem and if its auto maybe try a trans flush
